Yorkshire Dales 2009 Walking Holiday

GETTING OUT RETURNS FROM ANOTHER YORKSHIRE DALES HOLIDAY

Although weather conditions for this holiday were not dry and sunny all the time, there was less rain this year. Buckden, a new walk, was probably one of the prettiest, largely due to the fine displays of wild flowers along the terrace route to the tiny hamlet of Yockenthwaite The high level walk which included Gordale Scar was a much easier proposition this year, just because the drier conditions saw a lot less water cascading down this notorious rock mass, making for, as the pictures show, a much easier ascent. Over half the group successfully ascended to the top of the scar.

At the beginning of the Pen-y-ghent walk, low cloud plagued us right up until the last 20-30 minutes of the summit climb and then, quite suddenly the cloud lifted as we approached the top, revealing the true grandeur of this part of the Dales.
The short Attermire Scar route with its fascinating caves was an ideal finish for the 5 day (4 day walking) holiday. The group had a half day to either relax or explore other areas of this beautiful location.
It is hoped to return to the Yorkshire Dales during the summer of 2010, with a new fresh selection of walks. Please keep in touch with this web site for further details.
