Thursday, 1st May 2008 Wherstead - Freston Start 7pm (meeting 6.40pm), Distance 3.5miles

A special evening exclusively for "GO" walking has been arranged at The Suffolk Food Hall, Wherstead. The NEW circular walk will include a visit to the well known Bluebell Wood at Freston, through grazing meadows with particularly good views of the River Orwell. We shall return for dinner at the recently opened Suffolk Food Hall at approximately 8.30pm. However, since the proprietor is opening up especially for our group, a minimum number of 20 participating diners is required. THE CLOSING DATE FOR BOOKING WILL BE THURSDAY, 24th APRIL. Please click menu link below and indicate your choice when booking for the walk. S.F.H post code is IP9 2AB.

Post Event Review "GO kicked off the new summer season of evening walks with a large group. The Bluebells were great, although the woodland trail was just a tad on the muddy side in places. Perfect evening with a beautiful sunset as we neared the conclusion of the walk. Well done to Vix and all the staff at The Suffolk Food Hall. A superb effort on your part and the food was very tasty, served promptly and efficiently. Many favourable comments about the whole evening in "GO's" Visitors Book. We will be back
Saturday, 3rd May 2008 Brookhill Wood - Foxhall Start 10.30am, Distance 5miles

Meet and park 10.10am to pre-order food at "The Golf Hotel", Foxhall Road, Ipswich. A walk not featured in the "GO" brochure since September 1998! An outstanding woodland walk with the expectation of Bluebell displays!! We shall return to the pub for lunch at approximately 12.45pm. Pub post code is IP4 5TR.

Post Event Review Weather conditions were warm, dry and sunny. Majority of this walk was in woodland which provided just enough shade and a superb display of fragrant Bluebells. My thanks to Jim and all the attentive staff at The Golf Hotel for making our visit an enjoyable one. The food was both very reasonably priced and tasty, what more could you ask for?

Post Event Review A perfect evening for walking. The Bluebells are beginning to fade a bit now but there were still impressive displays throughout this walk. Food at this pub was good. Many thanks to Paul and staff for helping to make the evening an enjoyable one.

Saturday, 10th May 2008 Otley - Helmingham Park Start 10.30am, Distance 6milesSaturday, 10th May 2008 Otley - Helmingham Park Start 10.30am, Distance 6miles

Meet and park 10.10am to pre-order food at "The White Hart", public house, Otley. Walk includes open countryside with a great opportunity to observe deer in Helmingham Park. We shall return to the pub for lunch at approximately 1pm. Pub post code is IP6 9NS.

Post Event Review Another great day to be out. Although perhaps it might have been a little too warm at times but nonetheless most enjoyable. We were able to enjoy the coolness when pausing for a break in Helmingham Church before setting off once, to visit the park at Helmingham. With such a big group of walkers, the deer herds remained distant. The resident chefs at the pub were not available for duty, so this proved a difficult situation for them but the staff did manage to get all the food out OK, without too much delay - thanks for that.

Thursday, 15th May 2008 Great Blakenham - Baylham Start 7pm, Distance 4miles EVENING WALKThursday, 15th May 2008 Great Blakenham - Baylham Start 7pm, Distance 4miles EVENING WALK

Post Event Review A dull but dry evening inspired by pretty scenes by the Gipping and a wild-flower meadow in Baylham. Food at the pub was very reasonably priced and tasty, however somebody had stolen our roast beef orders upon our return but alas the chicken was just as tasty and so was the lamb I gather. Many thanks David and staff for making the evening an enjoyable one.

Saturday, 17th May 2008 Tuddenham - Witnesham Start 10.30am, Distance 5miles

Meet and park 10.10am to pre-order food at "The Fountain", public house, Tuddenham. Walk features open countryside and part of the picturesque Fynn Valley Route. We shall return to the pub for lunch at approximately 12.30pm. Pub post code is IP6 9BT.

Post Event Review Another dull day with just a little drizzle at times but the walk more than made up for this with a variety of attractive lanes and meadows dressed in early summer foliage. A small herd of bullocks greeted us in one such meadow at a farm near Witnesham providing some amusement as they chased ahead of the group. The Fynn Valley section gave a strongly picturesque finish back to the pub. Well done Sharon and staff for looking after our food requirements once again. A very enjoyable lunch time was had by all as we worked our way through some very tasty food indeed.- we'll be back!

Post Event Review A warm and sunny day with a pleasantly cooling breeze. Very dry underfoot. Many favourable comments regarding this walk, especially referring to the fields of barley moved gently by the breeze. Well done Jacky and staff, there were several positive comments recorded in the "GO" Visitors Book concerning both food and service. We shall return in due course.

A WET WEATHER CASUALTY. THE FORECASTERS PROVED CORRECT THIS TIME. APOLOGIES TO ALL THOSE DISAPPOINTED BY THE WALK BEING CALLED OFF, IT DOESN'T HAPPEN VERY OFTEN I GUESS. WALK WILL RE-FEATURE IN JULY/AUGUST BROCHURE.

Post Event Review Even though we didn't walk. A good pub social was enjoyed at The Bell Inn. Many favourable comments about your short-crust Steak Pie Alyson. Yes, I can certainly add to those - very tasty and nice to find your pub keeping with the traditional short-crust version. Many thanks to Alyson and your helpful staff for making our walk-less evening such an enjoyable one. We will be back to do this walk during July, hopefully when the weather is better.
Saturday, 31st May 2008 Thorndon - Eye Start 10.15am, Distance 6milesSaturday, 31st May 2008 Thorndon - Eye Start 10.15am, Distance 6miles

Meet and park 9.55am to pre-order food at "The Black Horse", public house, Thorndon. This beautiful mid Suffolk route features open countryside, peaceful meadows, passing through Eye Town Moor and visiting the historic town of Eye with its grand castle remains and the magnificent church, both of which we hope to visit. We shall return to the pub for lunch at approximately 1.15pm. Pub post code is IP23 7JR.

Post Event Review A warm and sunny day at last! Although the legacy of recent wet weather was evident on just a few places on this very pretty, meadow-rich, mid-Suffolk walk. Many thanks to Darron and helpful staff at The Black Horse, Thorndon - excellent cuisine and real ales maintained in good condition. A very enjoyable experience. We shall return at some point in the future.
