Meet and park at 10.10am to pre-order food at "The Gardeners Arms", public house, Stutton. One of several "GO" routes from this pub. This walk includes meadows, woodlands and a superb stretch by the River Stour towards the end. Returning to the pub for lunch at approximately 12.45pm. Pub post code is IP9 2TG.
DINERS ARE ADVISED TO BOOK EARLY FOR THIS WALK.

POST EVENT REVIEW - Once again a dry day with some sunshine. Great views across the river at high tide. Thank you to Bob, Chris and family for some great food. - we shall return at some point in the future.

Saturday, 12th September 2009, HADLEIGH (Railway Walk), Start 10.30am, Distance 5.5miles.Saturday, 12th September 2009, HADLEIGH (Railway Walk), Start 10.30am, Distance 5.5miles.
Meet and park 10.10am to pre-order food at "The White Hart", public house, Hadleigh. Again, this is one of a number of "GO" routes from this pub. This walk includes open countryside, meadows and a considerable section of a disused railway line, formerly part of the route between the important branch line from Bentley to Hadleigh, which was a valuable cross country link to the main Ipswich to London line. Freight traffic delayed its closure by some thirty years or more but eventually this declined and the line completely closed on 19th April 1965. Pub post code is IP7 6DB.
We shall return to the pub for lunch at approximately 12.45pm.

POST EVENT REVIEW - A slightly longer walk (6miles) than advertised, avoiding the High Street and taking in a very picturesque closing section by the River Brett. Again, a warm, dry and sunny day. Thanks to Ann-Marie and staff at The White Hart, Hadleigh for excellent food and refreshments.

A SPECIAL WALK PARTLY IN AID OF MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT
Another great opportunity to support this charity. There is a minimum charge of £6 for this special walk, £4 of which will be donated to MCS. Any donation in excess of £6 will also be give to MCS.
Meet and park at 10.00am at Wrabness Railway Station. It costs 50p to park your car all day on a Saturday at the station car park. This walk has been scheduled to start just after the arrival of the 1035 service from London LS for those wishing to travel by rail to the starting point. The route passes through some stunning woodland scenery before crossing the peninsula through Ramsey and over to the coastal section by Dovercourt and Harwich. We shall of course pause en route before finally arriving in Harwich Town at between 2 - 2.15pm. Our food host for this event is Treo - a warm, friendly and welcoming restaurant, cafe/bar in George Street. If you wish to spend time relaxing in Harwich after lunch, then please feel free to do so. Trains depart every hour from Harwich Town Station to London LS, stopping at Wrabness en route. The single rail fare from Harwich Town to Wrabness is £2.30, this can be purchased on the train.

POST EVENT REVIEW - A truly marvellous day of bright and warm sunshine. Thank you to everyone that supported this special day but one significant disappointment was that 13 of the 29 persons who had booked for lunch at the Cafe quite suddenly on arriving at the cafe decided not to dine. You should be aware that the cafe remained open for us and kept their staff on, expecting 29 diners. I will have to ask the 13 persons for a food deposit for future walks if you choose to dine.
Nonetheless the day was a success. Will update the MCS total within the next few days.

POST EVENT REVIEW - The unusually dry conditions currently prevailing in Suffolk meant an easy passage through the small fen section on this walk. Weather very warm for late September with sunny periods. A special thanks to Pinky at Eye Church for directing some of the group to the toilet stop. Thanks as well to Darren and staff at The Black Horse public house in Thorndon.
