Pakenham Water Mill Walk, 23rd June 2007

Getting Out visited the Water Mill at Pakenham On Saturday, 23rd June 2007.This beautiful 18th century mill is not just a Grade II listed building, it's the last water mill in Suffolk still regularly working. Owned by the Suffolk Building Preservation Trust and run by an enthusiastic team of volunteers it keeps alive the craft of milling in the traditional way. Locally grown wheat is used to produce fine quality stone-ground wholemeal flour for sale at the mill and at farmers' markets and a number of local shops. The mill is open to the public on Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday afternoons in the summer when friendly guides will show you round and explain the workings of the mill, or you can just sit by the mill pool and enjoy the tranquil setting.
