A GREAT DAY OUT ON MERSEA ISLAND
BREWERY TOUR, TASTING, WALK AND BUFFET LUNCH
Saturday, 14th June 2008

Getting Out enjoyed a first ever trip to the picturesque and peaceful Island of Mersea. Situated at the estuaries of Rivers Colne and Blackwater, this tiny island has an international reputation for Oysters but Getting Out has discovered that it is also home to a micro brewery, producing fine wines
from grapes grown under the auspices of Mersea Island Vineyard. If that wasn't enough, they also produce a selection of excellent real ales - brewed and bottled on the premises!

Our day began with a comprehensive and yet informal tour of the vineyard, winery and brewery. Roger (chief vintner and owner) gave us all the opportunity to taste samples of some of his handy work and also tastings of beer which is brewed by his son, Mark. Following a short "recovery" period, we embarked upon the 6 mile route around the eastern section of Mersea. The weather remained warm and sunny for pretty much all of the route, providing excellent views across the Colne and out to sea. We arrived back at around 2.15pm to enjoy a delicious buffet spread and
of course sampled more of the locally produced beverages. Our day concluded around 4pm.
