A NORFOLK BIG DAY OUT 2006 to 2010

A NORFOLK BIG DAY OUT 2006 to 2010
The very first visit to Norfolk in 2006 was by far the warmest, with a maximum temperature of 32degrees centigrade recorded at Weybourne, the highest anywhere in the UK that day. The cooling coastal waters were so welcome. Although subsequent years have not been as hot, the weather has nearly always been fine.
Whenever possible, our passage along Sheringham Beach is timed to be at low tide, so that we have the benefit of walking on a flat, sandy beach rather than the undulating cliff top route. The Tea Shop at Kelling, where we enjoy our light lunch is a fabulous family-run business, offering a good selection of savouries and just about anything you could think of in the way of cakes.
The North Norfolk Railway offers an extensive service of steam-hauled train rides between Sheringham and Holt in July and August. Our journey consists of a run to Holt from Sheringham and then on the return trip, we leave the train at the wonderfully restored station of Weybourne. The short walk between Weybourne and Kelling is mostly through heathland. The colourful heather is just about at its best during late summer. The evening meal for the past two years has been enjoyed at The Windham Arms in Sheringham, who kindly provide waitress service for the group. Finally, National Express Rail provide us with a speedy and seamless connection to Sheringham from Ipswich. The whole day is a relaxing and unhurried experience with a minimum of 15-20 minutes breaks between the various phases to just browse or rest.
